Session One, Part I: 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., October 24, 2014

  • (45 minutes) Introduction to Asthma (Overview of NAEPP Guidelines) 
    • 3 key components: Spirometry, ICS, AAP
    • Survey to clinicians
    • Adherence to treatment
    • Asthma and pharmaceuticals
  • (30 minutes) Adult Asthma Cases (Include PFT Interpretation)   
    • COPD vs. Asthma
    • Rhinitis and Sinusitis
  • (15 minutes) Kansas Asthma Initiative   
    • Great Plains Asthma Research
  • *(30 minutes) Spirometry and inhaler technique   
    • Include during last half-hour for all clinicians (RNs, RTs)

* Spirometry and inhaler technique dedicated to non-physicians

 

Session One, Part II: 3:30–5:00 p.m., October 24, 2014

  • Community Stakeholder Engagement  
    • Schools, community groups, local government, etc.
    • PFT screening

 

Session Two: 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., December 5, 2014

  • (60 minutes) Pediatric and Adolescent Asthma and Allergy Management
    • Algorithm for pediatric asthma patient
    • Adolescent behavior and adherence
    • Cases, Q and A
  • (30 minutes) EIB Overview
    • Prevalence
    • Cases, Q and A

 

Session Three: 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., January 23, 2015

  • (30 minutes) Asthmatic: A Guideline Review and New Therapies
    • Overview of new treatment and therapies
    • Cases
  • (30 minutes) Physician Case
    • Engage local physician case
      • Discussion, Q and A
  • (30 minutes) Review Guidelines
    • Three key components: spirometry, ICS, AAP
    • Review proper use of all three
